Hey everyone, I'm wondering if this looks to you like an antique Persian teapot? I think that's what it is but I don't have any experience with them. If that's what it is how old would it be and where would it rank on the quality scale? Thanks! John
What a nice tea (?) pot. No photos of the base, inside, under the lid? Do you know if it has it been lined? It has a very distinctive spout end. I don't drink tea but I guess it is either to do with what kind of tea and how it was best poured or related to zoomorphic traditional styles - or both? We had a tea pot with a spout like that but it was ceramic and very plain so I guess the spout shape was either fashionable or served a function. I have seen it on old silver
I had a quick look around and saw ones like this are still being made, one was from Turkey and has similar patterns so it was probably copying older styles. There is also a website where you can purchase new, but old-looking, copper items in an old Persian style so age will probably be hard to tell from one photo.
There is definitely a kind of Islamic / middle-eastern look to your pot, did you buy it? You could have a look here to see if there is anything similar. Or try the Omani virtual museum site, they made nice copperwares.
@johnshoe I've had a few nice Mughal copper pieces over the years... YES, it looks Persian to me. Nice!
@greeno107 while we're at it, I just found this today. Looks fantastic to me but I'd be curious to know your opinion. It appears to be missing a lid. I seem to be attracting Persian things right now for some mystical reason, so I'm just going with it.
@johnshoe these are very abundant and as for value is minimal unless they are silver inlaid and very refined the two you have look late 19th century to 20th century.
@lotusblack you might be right in regards to the teapot. But i think this other one is something completely different. Here's a comp for where/when I suspect it could be from. To your point regarding quality, the black design areas in the mandalas is heavily tarnished silver inlay.

@johnshoe That one appears to be Damascus (Syria) late 19/early20th c, and as Brian stated, not usually of much value unless inlaid with gold & silver.
Mughal pieces are a different situation altogether. I’m not very experienced, but Bonhams in London has sold quite a lot of Mughal metal work, so search online for teapots.
Again, generally higher prices are achieved when inlaid with gold & silver, but not always.
