Please may I ask for your help in regards to this humble slip-painted bird.
It is on a bowl in my collection and I believe that it significantly predates the images which I have gathered online below.
I believe that the group of images may be based on on a bowl similar to mine which may have been in an exhibition or a Museum collection and I am trying to find out if these much later bowls were made in China or Japan. Some of the bowls have been described as being Chinese Batavia-ware, whereas others Meiji period Japanese. I suspect that some may be 20th century, but it would be helpful to find out if they are Chinese or Japanese.
A couple of the bowls posted online have under-glaze blue characters.

The bottom two photos do look to be Japanese (right) and Chinese batavia-ware, but yours is different, I think yours is a jizhou piece - although not being an expert, it may be cizhou, but I think it is the former.
It is very nice, may we see the bottom? I imagine it must be from around the Song period.

Below is a photograph of the base of my bowl as per your request. I hope you will notice that my bowl has a stoneware body, but the inside of the footring has a small area showing the pure white body which has been protected from the centuries of grime. Only the Ding and Dangyangyu kilns produced dark glazed wares with a white porcelaneous stoneware body during the Northern Song period. My bowl is definitely not Dingyao due to the crackle in the ivory white glaze.
Below is a close up photograph of the dark glaze on the bowl. It is worth comparing it to the glaze on a Meiping jar which is currently for sale at Mayuyama in Japan.

However, what is extremely unusual is the slip-painted decoration and having found much later and poorer copies of this decoration, I am trying to find out why these copies were produced. I have purchased one of those copies, described as Japanese Meiji period. Below are some photographs showing the porcelain body and the very poor copy of the earlier decoration.

I am sorry if I caused some confusion with my bowl. It's characteristics are purely Northern Song Dangyangyu ware apart from the unusual slip-painted decoration. I actually now have three of these "Zisu" bowls which were all from the same private collection and I had to wait more than three years to be able to reunite all three bowls.
I had previously thought that this trio may be unique, but I have been made aware of the much later, possibly modern, copies. It is unlikely that the copied bowls were based on my bowls and so I assume that there must be at least another very similar Northern Song Dangyangyu Zisu bowl which was copied.
I am trying to find out if the copies are all Japanese or Chinese so that I can concentrate my search for the other original bowl in China or Japan, although it may not be that simple.
I do not have enough experience with later porcelain to be able to distinguish between Chinese or Japanese copies.

I have taken photos of the copy bowl which I have purchased. It is around the same size as my Zisu bowls at 12cm wide, but the the white glaze has a bluish grey tone and definitely a porcelain body rather than a white porcelaneous stoneware one. I would be grateful for opinions on whether this copy is Japanese or Chinese.

I have attached comparison photographs of my Dangyangyu Zisu bowls with the copy that I have purchased and I think that it is fair to say that these copies have clearly not been made to deceive.
The decoration is not a coincidence, as all of the copies which I have seen have a poor rendering of both the bird on a plum blossom branch and the pine branch. Some even a poor copy of the bamboo decoration.
It seems to me that these copies were made to celebrate a particular Dangyangyu bowl and I would really like to find that original bowl so that I can compare my bowls with it.
A breakthrough in my search for when these copy bowls appear to have started is to be found in "Chinese Ceramics & The Maritime Trade Pre-1700" which was published by the Museum of East Asian Art. The bowl which Brian McElney had collected is now part of their collection and is shown on page 181.
