Hello Guys,

This is the last red ceramic I bought, instinctively because of its beautiful form (shape) and strawberry colour.

I know there is a label on Ezkanazi (and I dont believe that) but one of my co-collector told me its a modern copy so would like to get your opinion....  on this mono-chrome journey...

The dimension is approx 17 cm x 17 cm.  quite heavily potted.

Thanks again in advance....

@superox

Hi Alex -

The label, as far as I know, is certainty not authentic Eskenazi ...

The ware underneath/surrounding such and the other ware seen to the base/interior looks, somewhat, artificial yet the red glaze displays very little ware/age signs - although this may be the lighting ...

The orangey/yellowish iron line, seen where the exterior/interior  footrim meet the glaze edges, is  absent ...

Personally I think this has little age, but it needs to be seen/handle to confirm ...

The grey foot is not Kangxi in my opinion and there seems to be dirt applied to the bottom.

Hi Alex -

Just for comparison:-

1:- Gugong, Palace Museum, Beijing. Image taken from 1999 publication, ‘The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum’ - so colour/tone may not be quite accurate ...

2:- Zhuyuetang Collection, Hong Kong, exhibited/published most recently in 2018, ‘A Millennium of Monochromes’, Baur Foundation, Geneva ...

Both attributed to Kangxi ...

@ming1449

Hi Stuart,

Yes, I think so too. so I did not notice that black spot there.

This is the danger of purchasing online isnt it ?  It is quite heavily potted.

Would you say this is almost brand new (10 year old ) ?

It seems those (fake) sticker and artificial dirtying is a sign of "deliberate" intention to deceive.

so my current Red ware purchase is 0/2 !

I will need to ensure that I buy from a reputable auction house next time specially monochrome.

Thanks so much again....

Hi Brigit.

I guess this is part of the journey.  Have you ever bought a copy and do you keep them or sell them back to market ?

How old do you think is this ?

Thanks...

Alex

@superox well I would hope when you say sell back to the market you mean as decor. I personally would keep it where you have to look at it everyday it helps remind myself to not make such mistakes they also make good study piece I call it tuition.

@lotusblack

Hi Brian.

That is so true.  Infact, after buying these two monochrome, my impulse to buy have been reduced.  I think I should spend equal time with our community learning instead of being FOMO.  A lot more restrain and proper learning from the community should help a lot.  so thanks again!

@superox Are you particularly interested in red pieces? If so, I have a pair of ovoid lidded red vases I am probably going to sell soon. They are late Qing examples from around 1900 time frame. If you are interested in seeing them I can get pictures to you if you let me know your email. Cheers!  John

@superox

Of course I bought some fakes/copies. As I couldn’t stand having them around I resold them as modern with considerable loss. But I think at least one person in the line of sellers should be honest and that’s me

 I’m no monochrome expert, but the bottom, dirt and label make me think of a recent production.

@superox

Hi Alex -

As mentioned, monochromes are a specialist area within themselves and you really need to see/handle numerous examples to acquire knowledge of these wares ...

Some types, such as guan/ge glazed pieces, can be especially problematic ...

Yes this is one, out of many, pit falls from acquiring objects online ...

As to possible age, I would concur with Birgit@shinigami, quite recent - probably last 10 years or so ...

A reliable, well known, and recommend dealer may also be a possible source for your next purchase ...
