I have an identical carving in a different material but I think these are later period archaic style carvings, possibly Ming. I've seen a few similar carvings in different material. Does anyone here know if this could be period? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164339223893

In my opinion it's not period. It's a 20th century example.
Why do I think that?
Simply put the perfect circles and curves!
I had a quick look at his other jades on offer. Whilst I am not a collector of these archaic styled jades as you well know. It's my belief that most of his collection are copies. With the exception of a Qing belt buckle and perhaps one of his jade Bi. But his images are not really clear enough.
As you well know these types of carvings are being mass produced in China. Some are exceptionally well done. Like bronzes from this period I would not buy anything without strong provenance.

I bought some Archaic pieces years ago from a deceased estate.
I was very impressed with the pieces and took them to the British Museum and then Roger Keverne.
They believed them to be late Qing rather than authentic.
A tricky area to buy in so I stopped !

Now I'm just briefly at the library so I can't write longer posts. But while I don't think the Zhou scabbard chape is arachic either I linked to is authentic either ( the one I have is more acyually interesting) some of the jades available actually looks decent in my opinion. Like this warring states sword chape. But in my opinion overpriced.

It is 6.5 at one end,5.3cm at the other and just under 3cm deep.
Their opinions surprised me but it was a bit of a strange day to be honest !
this is a Dragon and possibly Phoenix at the other end Plaque,same collection.
I haven’t sold any of the pieces.

Yes, you've showed that one a couple of times before. I could get fooled by that one too. But your sword chape you showed I think could be an authentic Han dynasty example.
It’s a dangerous area to collect in so I stopped.

Archaic jades like archaic bronzes need to have strong provenance. Otherwise the market is heavily compromised in pricing and acceptability.
That's why the high prices achieved are from known collections.
Personally I prefer jades from the Yuan period onwards.

They are from the collection of Mrs Cheng Lammers,authoress and collector,died around 2006 and came to market when her husband later died around 2012.
They moved to London in the early 80’s but her collection was formed from the 60’s.

The Adam Malik,above,was the Vice President of Indonesia where she sometimes lived,and she was also one of the founding members of the Indonesian Ceramic Society,I think in the 60’s or 70’s.
They lived in Wimbledon when they came to England and her husband Frank was a photographer.

Yes,I told him on the phone what the BM had said before I visited him later that evening.
With hindsight I should perhaps have not done so.
It was a strange day,I was at the train station waiting for the train to go to visit him and called to re-confirm our meeting and he put it off until later in the evening,so I went to the BM first of all.
Personally I have a lot of faith in the pieces but the BM suggested that they were late Qing pieces similar to the Detanner items.
I checked some items from the De Tanner collection over the following weeks and could not see any connection.
