Metropolitan Museum Selling Chinese Art For Fund Acquisitions

August 25, 2019 By plcombs Leave a Comment

In September Sotheby's will be auctioning off around 300 jades from the Herbert and Florence Irving Collection. Roughly one third of the jades left to the museum from their combined estates. The sale is being conducted to eliminate duplicates and to fund the acquisition of additional objects of Asian Art as stipulated in their last bequests.

In addition to Jades, they'll also be selling numerous objects from other categories including porcelains, Chinese furniture, Bronzes and Scholar's Objects. Other objects from this collection were sold earlier this year during Asia Week.

To Diversify Its Asian Art Collection, the Met Will Sell 300 Chinese Artworks at Sotheby’s for as Much as $4 Million
