As one would expect from New York's preeminent dealer of Asian and Chinese works of art, when James Lally decides to undertake an exhibition, the results and quality will be nothing less than exceptional. His recent showing of glazed Tang to Liao white wares from the superb Ronald W. Longsdorf collection was everything you'd expect. The show consisted of 27 exceptional examples made primarily during the Tang, Five-Dynasties, Sui, Jin , Song and Liao dynasties produced at the Ding and other related kilns.
The exhibition dates ran from September 11 to October 3, 2015 and was of course accompanied by a superbly photographed and informative catalog. The introduction was written by Mr. Langsdorf and offers his personal insights into his fascination in collecting type of glazed pottery over a 25 year period. The resulting catalog with it's lavish superbly well shot images and comprehensively written descriptions of each illustration make this a terrific reference resource for collectors, dealers and curators. Most importantly, the pieces are just absolutely beautiful in their forms from simple bowls to elegantly shaped covered jars.
