The Philadelphia Museum of Art is well know for it's western paintings and sculpture, but when it come to their Asian art holdings...not so much.
The PMA has a superb collection comprising thousands of examples of Asian art. From Chinese scholars objects to Indian sculpture, they have it all. Recently we did a video focussing just on some of their Chinese porcelains of the late Ming and Qing dynasties.
In the video we also discuss the museums interesting history starting out as a building erected for the Philadelphia 1876 Exposition. Then evolving into a museum which was later replaced by its current facility built in the 1920's. A great museum built by benefactors from day one, now one of the largest in the United states with over 225,000 objects.
