Hi all,
I've been reading a little bit about how possibly to remove over excess glue from porcelain. At this point, don't want to stick porcelain into a boiling water (?) this possibly will dissolve glue everywhere?
My goal - is safely to remove glue from outside vase, when keeping safely enamels.
Maybe there is some sort chemicals which will do the job? No idea what kind of glue it is either.

Are the enamels you are protecting original to the vase? And do you want to take it all apart or just remove the excess glue?
I typically bake pieces in the oven to remove glues, most common glues, and many industrial glues are only stable to about 500 degrees farenheight or 260 degree Celsius, but many are lower. Enamels that were fired on a second time went twice as hot as that so they shouldn't be effected. then manually scrape the glue off with a scalpel. Some epoxies, especially of the "5 minute" variety this will not work for, they just will not soften, I have heard that they can be fired in a commercial kiln to about 1000 degrees and they will turn to ash.... I am not doing all that. I would first try hot water though and move up from there, it may become soft enough to slip a scalpel under it to peel it off. Of course Acetone, Methanol, Ethanol, naptha, and others could work, but they are hazerdous to breathe in and combustible, so unless you have safety gear I'd shy away from most of these. My two favorites are pentyl acetate and toluene, but I think unless you have a respirator and nitrile gloves I'd avoid them. Start with warm->hot water, move up to acetone, then rubbing alcohol, then I'd use the oven method I mentioned. Slowly heating it from cold over a period maybe 30 min every 50-100 degrees, then once it falls apart leave it in so as to not shock the piece until it is handle-able with a dish towel and then manually removing the softened glue. I have yet to have any damage to a piece and I have taken apart maybe 100 or more good pieces with this method. Also so that the piece don't collapse, I lay the vase down sideways in a pan filled with sand/rice, and nestle it into the material so that it has very little distance to travel.

Enamels are original, so I want to keep them as they are on a vase. And definitely I don't want by the accident to "take vase apart"Â as vase previously re-stuck quite ok, just that glue over excess on outside what I am after to remove in some areas, not everywhere.
If to start with hot water - boiling. Close to boiling temperatures. How hot water should be?

@shinigami Birgit, such a careful & minimalistic job with a scalpel is not for me..I know myself, I will loose a patient at some point and I will end up scratching enamels 😂 I might to try to work somehow with strong plastic some sort tool once glue softened. Scalpel big no no for me. More chances to survive in regards to enamels with chemicals for me & with plastic tool 😂 BTW I am fascinated with people which do careful minimalistic work, I am following YT channel where a person repairing old watches, love it.
@lucky I was able to remove excess glue from a damaged piece by dabbing it gently with a ball of cotton and a little nail polish remover (make sure it is the 100% acetone kind). It might help to have a plastic utensil (like those that come in fast food packages) to gently scrape it off as it softens.Â
