I picked this up at an estate sale. It’s has the same glaze tone of my shipwreck pieces. That ocean smooth. But as we all know everything is aged faked and copied. What do you think?
I know that these pieces have been faked. It's frustrating as even the authentic examples arent worth much due to damage.
I’m actually feeling better about this piece since I found a comparable the comparison list it as transition period.

I think yours is a copy of that style, Brian. The decoration is similar but to me it looks very different in the execution of it, heavier-looking, less detail and finesse. I am not saying yours is necessarily a fake, it could simply be a later copy, but I don't think it is transitional.
I am probably wrong as I lack any experience in this and am just basing it on the comparison, but I thought it worth mentioning
@julia I was told by two experts that one thing the forgery can not fake is measurements and the natural defects caused in the kiln. When thing are fired they all shrink how much it’s shrinks has many variables but a batch of blanks will usually all be the same measurements and usually have the same flaws. Painting style depends on the artist so this is the only variable. The piece I own is the same measurements exactly and the firing contractions tear is identical this pot in my opinion was fired in the same batch the data proves this. Also construction is spot on.

To me the painting just looks off. That is interesting that fakers can't fake measurements and more so that pieces were so identical that exact measurements are a dividing link between real and fake. Or am I maybe misunderstanding and you mean the weight not centimetres/inches type measurement?
@julia JE from Gotheborg which I believe is an expert in the field told me during the firing process a batch can shrink by almost 30 percent the type of clay kiln temperature time of the year how much water all are part in the shrinking during firing also how thick the potter potted the vessels and many other variables. When a batch is done they are all in the same condition and show same flaws. Later copies will not have the same weight or measurements. When my bowl was authenticated they used the measurements from a comparable that they actually had in Hong Kong it was the exact measurements that Sotheby’s told me that’s what authenticated the bowl the painting was similar but not exact. They both told me if you have two comparable and they have the exact size measurements shape and construction firing flaws they are most likely are from the same batch.
On another note my friend said if it’s shipwreck look in the spout for crustaceans and barnacles. He told me when they retrieve these they will polish them to get the sea life off the vessel because people pay more for non ship wreck so I believe the vase was made to deceive they took a shipwreck item and polished it to look like it was not ship wreck. I did inspect the spout it does have barnacles.
I see thanks, Brian, so batches will have the same measurements in size and weight. I assumed you meant these were always made to a set size (linear) as I knew the weight can vary. It is fascinating that everything in a batch would be so similar but could be different the next time. Thanks for elaborating.
The painting looks better in the light, but there are still differences. I guess it must have been a different artist.
