Great pictures from everyone guys.
Dear George, here are pictures of 18th century vases on the same Philips radio:
Here Kangxi famille verte items. The big charger on the left is a rare dish for the Islamic market:
Here a pair of famille rose vases on a Franklin terracotta stove:
And here, dear Stuart, a collection of b&w Transitional and Kangxi jars. Quite far from your superb ones!
Regards
Giovanni
Dear Giovanni, lovely indeed, nice floor console radio, bleu et blanc parade, all exceptionally fine, another treat to see.
Here is the old Ohio Pilgrim's Farewell pattern platter that I dug out of the attic to compare to the other little Ohio vase with the blue smudge, they are officially an antique now and I may return to collecting old Ohio since no one would bother to copy it. I had collected some old Harker which stated "America's Oldest Pottery," but that was probably "mere puff." I gave all that to a former daughter in law because she was born near the pottery location in Ohio, which is fine because we shall always love her. I also dug out a Wedgwood Queen's ware platter that I decided to display after taking down the Imari off the wall. My old General Electric transistor from Christmas 1960, there was cellophane over the interior of the case and it had a battery (odd size) and an ear piece and wire in the other empty section. The black paint on the leather grained metal part of the actual radio, never did hold it black paint and when I tired of repainting it in black enamel, I decided I liked the metal look better anyway, may have had something to do with carrying it to school in my purse everyday. I was a good child and never had it confiscated, I was never sent to the principal's office, as I believed in obeying rules and I still do.
Beautiful pieces in a lovely setting!
Does the foo dog have a friend or is he top dog? (Or, wait, is that a chimera? He's got ridges on his back.)
Dear Giovanni -
Some truly beautiful pieces in stunning surroundings ...
I particular like the monochrome vases and the two blue and white landscape jars, second/third from the left, both still with there covers ...
I trust you are well ...
Stuart
Thank you all for the appreciation.
Dear Steve, since the dog is holding a ball, I suppose that it is the male one of a pair. I am not able to date it, but it must be older than the usually seen around, because of the many details and style.
Dear Stuart, sorry for the blurred picture due to the low light. The second from left is actually a well sought after one, having a landscape with sages painted in the “Master of the Rocks” style. Transitional or early Kangxi. The third one has the “Three friends of Winter” motif, and there is an identical one in the Princessehof in Leeuwarden Museum in Holland.
I like it because the decoration is recalling the style of the scrolls; see the following picture of the whole decoration.
Kind regards
Giovanni
Hello Giovanni:
I was not at all surprised to see that you have such a splendid collection. The items are all lovely, but I particularly liked the sky blue and aubergine monochrome vases. I like the alcoves too for display purposes and the brick walls are so attractive. It just shows how well Chinese porcelains fit in with any type of decor. We have similar plaster wall alcoves in this part of the USA (see photograph below showing alcove above the fireplace). I was struck by the similarity of your yen yen vase in the fourth image to one I own. Mine also has iron red peonies and yours looks as if it has phoenixes on it as mine does. Mine has been drilled (before I acquired it) and was presumably used as a lamp. I have assumed it was nineteenth century or late Qing and it is clearly famille verte. However, whereas yours has a white ground (which I prefer), mine has a diaper pattern as the ground giving it overall a somewhat pink appearance. I'd appreciate your thoughts on it (see below). Again, your display is so charming - so Italian and yet such a wonderful backdrop for high-quality Chinese art.
Best regards,
Errol
