I really don’t pay much for a lamped vase. Most I pay is $50 that’s my rule. But today was the first time I paid much more. There is a little back drop to this purchase. I once owned a vase that several knowledge people said wasn’t anything special I was not as informed as I am know and sold it as a buy it now for $250 it was sold in 9 minutes and several months later watched it sell in a minor auction for over $3000 it was painful to watch. But I handled the vase and learned from it. There are clues to this vase but I dont want to give it away yet what I think I have. It’s not going up for sale anytime soon don’t want to make my previous mistake.

@william thank you for showing your very nice vase. It is as you are aware from the same kiln most likely. I am very much excited that there are comps of similar pieces as I would just be preaching to the crowd. But I could actually be wrong as I’m truly putting the puzzles together. Did your dealer have any back story to the vase?
No, I was visiting Marchant in London and one of the sons brought it to my attention as something in my preferred price range. I found it to be unusually attractive with the pale blue peach & crane design.

I have only seen one other meiping with a similar design before in a London auction years ago. It had an eye watering estimate and didn’t sell so I wasn’t able to get a comp on the piece. Yours is the only other since then.
@william your dealer hit this on the bullseye yes Yongzheng period with Ming mark. My Chinese competitors laughed at me when I decided to pay the $175 price tag they all said Japanese. I know it’s damaged but like you already know it’s a rare bird. Is it possible to get a picture of the birds. I have another theory I’m working on. Thank you.
Speaking of comps, I just came across this at Bonhams in London.
The only thing that makes any sense is rarity. We will definitely find out this time since it is being sold without reserve. Perhaps, there is added value due to the proper Yongzheng mark vs. a Ming mark? Quality looks to be the same as my example.

Note the execution of the four clawed dragon, very poor and totally none YZ in style, rather ‘hideous’ as one gentleman said! The meiping ‘shape’ is also ‘very clumsy and stupid’, another Chinese collector commented The mark is also very poorly written and the piece, overall, was very disappointing …
Not YZ period and certainly non-imperial. As to date, the concerns was probably late 19th century …
