I don’t recognize these wares but they look stiff.

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum. In my opinion the items are 20th century. Something unique is never a good sign in the field of Chinese porcelain. Old pieces usually follow some decoration rules and comparable ones can be found. If many people look at it and nobody has seen something similar before it’s probably a modern piece. I agree with Brian as to a rather stiff decoration.

Welcome from me, too. I agree with the others, I think these need to be treated with caution.

The side view of the dragon bowl made me wonder if it was a modern Japanese piece, but I have never seen such strange dragons, nor would I expect to see chatter marks or the debris attached to the foot rim. It is an attempt to copy an older Chinese piece. Very likely the others are too.

I found this similar plate online but no information about it. I have seen this stylistic depiction of the dragon on older Chinese wares before.

@somewhereintexas without a source it’s just another picture of a similar style. Someone with Ming Yuan experience could answer this better. But just comparing the two You can see a much different rendering and construction. One other thing is I have been noticing the cobalt color of your posted items and Yuan design following out of China right now I’m cautious of any wares with this tint of cobalt they are trying to make it the purple blue tint found on Yuan wares but it’s just not right for me.

Here is picture when I first got the plate. Both the plate and small vase had the export wax seal on them. I was told they were bought in the 80s in China. I believe that is before all the “major” fakes went into production. I really liked the pieces so I purchased them.

The seal means it was not deemed to be of value or cultural significance, that kind of thing.  Sometimes you see it on late 19th c pieces but I have not seen it on anything older. You took the seals off?

Maybe it isn't a dragon, it has a bifurcated tail so it could be some other hybrid creature or maybe a different type of dragon.

@julia

Yes. Just from normal handling the wax seals were breaking off. In my opinion they add no value to the wares. The pieces have been in storage since the early 80s.

I'm wary of blue and white wares because of all the fakes. I don't have money to waste so I buy things that are certain.
