I saw this delightful looking plate on eBay.Â
It's being offered by Freek from @ShangrilaAntique and described as Edo period and in the style and manner of kakiemon.Â
It has a Mark in blue. Can anyone identify this mark?

Had a look at my collection of marks don't have this one sorry. It is similar to some central European marks crossed swords. But can't find a match in that area either. It is a very desirable plate have had my eye on it I am a little confused as the have an identical plate listed as buy it now $760.00. Sorry unable to be of much assistance.

Yes Julia the mark is very like the one you found we have discussed items for that maker and we found that the Pure Water Company seems to have been started in 1879, there was some discussion that Seiji Kaisha had both earlier roots and much later ones all with slightly different marks. However there are lots of very similar marks all with such slight variations that it makes my head spin every time I try to look one up. As we know the Edo officially ended in 1868 can't see why this plate could not date from around then but that's just my take on it. I may make a bid but think it will go over my current budget.

I have some plates with this mark, only an imprinted one, but that gave me a leg up on the identification. 😊 Â
The reasons I don't think it is Edo, aside from the mark, are the base and that red bit coming across from the side. I could easily be wrong on that, of course. Still, even as a Meiji piece, this is very nice.Â

Early Meiji as mentioned.I have a few pieces by this maker and the short timespan of manufacture will always make them highly collectable.
The mark in its layout is reminiscent of Derby porcelain of crossed batons under a Crown.
Very nice dish. I always like the non-symmetrical designs with negative space. And the market seems to prefer that type too. Seems like a bargain to me at that price. Looks a lot like Kakiemon style to me too  (minus the usual blue.)

Well I left a bid and missed out, not by much. I was a long way short on the bids I left on the fish plate, moon vase and a little Ming plate. However I managed a consolation prize with this plate for $56.00 plus postage... at 30cm with no damage I am pretty happy.

Yes I also missed out on the said plate. I was I believe the underbidder at $205.
It still in my opinion a good buy. Considering they are pretty rare and it was in good shape. He did have it up for sale I believe at about $700 with offers etc.
If you went into a retail gallery then it's my opinion you would have very little change left from your $1000.
However if you were buying it for possible future sale when the market recovers. Which it surely will. We just don't know when.Â
Then anything under $200 with shipping would have been a great buy for future consideration.

Good thoughts
I am not currently buying to sell on. I have a lot of stuff I brought years ago that I either give to a charity shop or give a run on ebay as I sort it out, most are mistakes but a few nice items. The stuff I buy now will most likely still be around when I fall off the perch and I suspect I won't care much about it in those circumstances. Not that I am thinking of making that trip anytime soon.Â
The plate in question was very nice in design and execution I just had a small doubt about the mark so lacked confidence in bidding higher.Â
