Hi all,
I've never seen this Faux texture applied before to Chinese modern style accent furniture until today after acquiring it off marketplace.
Has anyone seen something like this before? I think it's painted rosewood but I can't tell. I know Faux texture Chinese furnishing accent tables command strong retail values but I cannot for the life of me find a copy of this textured plant stand still.
I mean, I love it, but who has actually seen one of these before besides what Google lens tries to bring up?
Note, the brighter green version is the colors enhanced to help show its texture further in full view.

yes someone marblies this to look like marble. It’s going to be hard strip good luck to you John S.
@john-steward thanks John, to be honest I'm going to leave it. I had someone look at it professionally, it appears to be likely Gesso applied over paint, but the age is of the piece might be older than anticipated. Its actually striking in person and the marble mottling is pretty current with market interest.
Would anyone agree this might stem from early 20th century or even late 19th though?

@pbarski93 Here is my English stand, that an Aunt in the business bought off a container of English furniture and gave to me, it was sold as a smoking stand but one of our members convinced me that it was a bedside table and a chamber pot was kept in the lower section, so I have an old English ironstone chamber pot, that I used for decoration only, peeping out beneath the end of a guest room set up like an old sickroom, also had an old English ironstone bedpan hanging on the wall and an old German pap boat for feeding the infirm. The chamber pot did fit in the lower section, but I would have thought there would have been indoor plumbing by the twenties or thirties.
Are you able to determine the grain somewhere on your piece and do you know for sure it is Asian?

P.S. The guest room was set up as a sick room just briefly years ago for a visit by my college roommate, she was an RN/ Nurse Adminstrator before retirement. The props will go for trade fodder. Whoever faux painted your stand did a good job. I wonder if they dismantled the piece before spray painting the background green, otherwise they might have left the underside unpainted showing the grain.
@sharonp it's a very nice multifunctional piece there, it could really go either way but I believe the chamber pot would be better concealed if it were designed as such. Still if the environment is themed in early 20th Chinoiserie, it'd be a really swell addition.
With initial research I came across various examples of Faux malachite designs and green marble top designs, but both as a style wasnt exactly around. Also I'm not really sure if it was spray painted, in the fine details I can make out brush strokes throughout the foreground and background of the coloring.
Here's a couple examples of the underside exposed grain of another table I picked up over the summer. It's a very similar stand but it's clearly vintage. The wood pattern follows the same as the green table's patterning too.
It's possible these were painted prior to assembly given this follows an identical style to the underside, but the green table shows natural coloring of the wood in certain crevices on top and underneath so maybe not for the green table.
@pbarski93 In any case, those stands are popular for display of a favorite vase or statue. You are correct in that the small tight pattern of the grain looks similar in both pieces, @lotusblack Brian and several others have shown how attractive they are to display porcelain or bronze. It is a busy world again (thankfully) and some of our expert members on the topic are out leading busy lives, we miss them.
@sharonp agreed, I have a bit of both porcelain and brass with it at the moment but its experimental. When I have it in the right tone I'll share further pictures of it next. If I find a suitable bronze piece, I'll give it a try next.
Last year I dipped out of here over the summer time until winter came around, time will return interest where it had pursued last eventually.
