I believe i picked up a further repaired version of this exact vase by chance today.
The crack has been repaired with enamel, possibly fired but the damage line mirrors this vase. I'm not exactly sure of its age too either way. Anyone happen to have a guess?
The faces look authentic for around 1870 but by the overall impression it's not something I would buy. And not worth much in that condition. Do you think it was the same that was offered in the auction? I can't tell by the pictures.

It looks to be the same vase, I can still just about make out the cracks, which makes me wonder why there is all that bubbly looking white covering which goes way beyond the damage. It looked better as it was even with the crack being so prominent- unless of course photography smoothed out that surface.
It looks like it might be one of those Canton Violet (? sorry, I've forgotten already what this is called and it was only on here a few weeks ago), they can be painted rather badly. I agree with Birgit's dating and view on the lack of desirability, but I am not sure if you can send it back. It will depend ....
Looks like the Cat damaged and then repaired it ...i would put it in a small electric kiln like they use in studio pottery at 750 celsius what remains is genuine
The damage repair was awfully executed. It could be a good study piece. I don’t think it’s a fake at all.
@julia I know what you mean but don't remember the name either. Famille mauve? Famille verte revival? In any case these faces are usually combined with nice green and grey decorations.

It's something to think about with this one. Returning it is impossible due to the 2nd-hand reseller market. On the upside, it cost as much as a new book today so nothing crazy in terms of loss.
If I get access or buy an electric kiln in the near future per @webboy, I'll update how it turns out.
Per the bubbling in the rest of the piece, I'm wondering if that's more enamel by an inexperienced hand during the repair process. Some self-attempting conservationists will go nuts with touch up paint on a damaged work when it just needed to be across one fine line. It looks like it was not really diluted during the application process. The color matching was OK at least but that's the only credit I'll give adherence to it.
Since we're already in this hole of the vase, I have a couple tests I can try this weekend and see what comes out of it.
@julia and @shinigami always appreciate the help with pinpointing its history a bit.
@pbarski93 Normally the resoration is done in 5 steps first you burn it in the kiln so all glue epoxie or hide glue will burn off an the piece comes apart second you clean the shards from remaining glue or cement or what ever they used ( best done with a glass erasure )...third you put the piece together without glue just using tape , four fill the thin line where it broken with low viscosity epoxi resin that operates as a glue fifth finaly u use a a high viscos resin with epoxy pigments an a thin brush to fill in gaps and mimik the glazing , of cours all this steps are reversible.
The whole process is done under a Microscope 5 to 8 times magnification takes up to 4 days but efective work maybee 3 Hours the rest is time to let the piece sit and the epoxie dry. Costs around 300 Dollars.
In Japan they often used grinded porcelain shards and mixed ist with Sodium silicate this is the best methode not even visibly under UV ligth and can stand high temperatures but the knowlege how to do it is mostly lost, and Epoxie is much cheaper and leads to the same result.
@pbarski93 You did not pay too much, so seems a good deal, enjoy the study, this was an interesting study in itself. Thank you.
You don't have to buy a kiln to take the pieces apart. Hot water or the baking stove will do in most cases.
