This tea cup has no mark but I'm hoping someone can help me date it by the figures. The cup has a hairline and several small chips on the rim, so it's not I perfect condition but I like the playfulness of the scene. Thanks everyone for all of your help, there's so much to learn.
@lillybell2u It does have a European look to it with the scrolling, do you think it is Samson or similar. The rustic wood table depicted on the cup is interesting, did the Chinese have that style of furniture? It was popular in the United States at the turn of the last century as lodge furniture. Sharon
I feel like it raining Qainlong export today. Lol
I agree, it does look Qianlong in style although not as elaborate as some. Was it described as European? The depictions of the figures on European chinoiserie don't tend to compare weĺl with what they are copying. In the same way depictions of Europeans look strange on Chinese pieces.
Now I have seen your other cup I am wondering if this isn't also Lowestoft, or some such. As I said some many depictions of Chinese figures tend to be obviously not done by a Chinese hand but a Lowestoft is one of the better ones. Their floral pieces confuse me, too. 😊
This cup of yours I think seems to be Qianlong, while Brian's cup and saucer are English. For comparison I enclose the pictures from the other thread again. Note the hair style of the lady which is typical Qianlong and the scene, furniture etc. There went great care into the painting of your little cup.

Yes, that is more like this. My first instinct was qianlong, I also have a teapot with similar gold squiggles and use of puce that you can see by the handle on this one. But then seeing the next cup, made me doubt my feeling on this. As I said, I am easily confused by some of the good English pieces. 🙄
Now I will go look again at Brian's from a different perspective. 😊
Thank you everyone, I am researching Lowestoft to learn more about it. These pieces, the tea cup, bowl and blue and white saucers, all came from the same thrift store on the same day so I am wondering if someones collection was donated after their passing. English seems more likely, but I'm excited about the pieces nevertheless.
I’m still working on the Qainlong pieces as to them being made in China and being decorated in England. I never understood the reason for the blanks to be shipped and paint them in the same style as the place the blanks came from. Maybe this is why I say Qainlong maybe I need to say Decorated QL cup.
Carol, I would be too. Lowestoft and other 18th c English makes are very nice and highly collectable.
