I think it was on LiveAuctioneers, and I was too late to leave a bid, but I saved a photo because I liked it so much, partly because of the fantastically low price, and I hoped one day to come across another. Thank you for sharing with us part of your lovely collection!

I drove all the way to Virginia to pick these up. I finally have them displayed:

The repair is kintsugi, which I did not realize until I picked them up. They display nicely. Room decorating is a work in progress.

@sharonp I'm not sure about the family symbols.

From perusing Japanese sellers' stores online, it seems that there is a reserve of material comparable to export wares in that country.

When I was selling broadly, the stuff that I shipped out to Japan was pretty unpredictable, and all of it was American and European stuff.

I buy with the understanding that the Japanese aren't any more likely to buy the stuff than any one else.

@rahawkins Congratulations, as Peter has stated numerous times that as far as quality, Japanese beats Chinese porcelain all day long. The market on Japanese crashed in the eighties after reaching extreme heights and never fully recovered, also the Japanese were not trying to recover their patrimony, as the newly minted Chinese rich are doing, because there have always been collectors in Japan. It is wise to collect with gravity in mind, but if you are collecting only for enjoyment, then I suppose the market is irrelevant. Are those Mons (family symbols around the base)? They are beautiful.

@charlotte Maybe. I think sometimes it has the opposite effect. When Christie's includes items like this, sometimes the buyers aren't looking for them there.
