Good morning to all. I would like to obtain some opinions on this lovely piece I obtained recently. I believe it to be legit. I am planning on selling and don't want to either misrepresent it or sell a very expensive piece too cheaply. All comments and comps. will be greatly appreciated from the community. I cleaned about half of the foot rim for photos. Vase measures 14.5 inches tall x 7.25 inches diameter at widest point. Condition is excellent. No damage or restorations. Sincerely, Jamie
This looks very recent to me , the tracked footrim is common on newer pieces, and the decoration looks too precise and 'clean' to be kangxi or even C19th kangxi revivial ; no fritting or wear that I can see.

Thanks for your response Julia. Here are a few more photos. Very sunny here today and hard to get pics that are not overlit. I have examined this piece real hard. I honestly think that it is early Qing. Everything is checking out.
@tam18. What do you think of these? They were brought back from China at the same time as the vase. All three pieces have been in USA since 1965. Previous owner was a very prominent and educated man.
Hello,
All 3 items are 2nd half of 20th C copies of much earlier styles. IMHO there is no chance for early or even late Qing.
Kind regards,
Adrian

Hi Jamie,
Your gourde style vase is in my opinion modern. I agree with the posts by Tam and Adrian.
It's still a very attractive looking vase that has in my opinion been painted very well. Its sort of reminiscent in style to that of a Japanese example with what looks like or similar to the imperial emblem (chrysanthemum flower with 16 petals) . The overall look has certain Japanese influences in my observation. Just my thoughts.
It's 100% hand painted and not printed.
Mark
Mark, I agree. My first thought was that it had a distinct Japanese look.
Jamie, thanks for the photos. It isn't Kangxi. It is too clumpy and chaotic and has unusual design elements, the base and mouth are wrong - this is all just my non-expert opinion, of course.
I hoped it might be late 19th c but I feel I am being swayed by that rather Meiji looking red pattern because, again, some elements don't look right and I can't reconcile that so I have to conclude it can't be a 19th c Chinese Kangxi revival piece, either.
The ginger jars just convince me further that these are 20th c. I have never seen earlier pieces with a painted mark like the leaf on the base. The little red suns seem unusual. Again, the birds are not quite right for late 19th c. This pair remind me of the crackle glaze vases with faux bronze bands which, I believe, were made well into the 20th c.
I would date them between 1940 and the time they came to the USA.
ps I have found some very similar jars on ebay. Interestingly, the description of the ones I looked at made no claim to the date even though the price kind of suggests the buyer would hope people think they are over 100 years old.
Yes , I also think the crackled lidded jars are C20th too, the footrims look wrong and the green leaf mark , as someone else has said , is odd. I suppose they could be 1930s or 40s ish.

You may want to pay the 12.00 each to have the vase and one of the jars evaluated to avoid a costly mistake, if the jars are Republic they would have value, if nothing else it satisfies the curiosity, especially when a consensus is not achieved by learned members.
Dear Jamie, what do you mean by saying "What do you think of these? They were brought back from China at the same time as the vase. All three pieces have been in USA since 1965. Previous owner was a very prominent and educated man."?
It depends on what the man told you. If he said that the jars are early Qing, he is not so educated, be sure.
All the three pieces are not really old, as said by others.
Regards,
Giovanni
@thrift6 Well, no one has definitively said they are not Republic, but maybe save your money, unless the Republic experts say yes. Republic is in the not old category for some, but it still gets reasonably good pay outs and not reasonable at all by some Republic period buyers.
If we just stick with the original vase, the OP said he's trying to sell it . I would say it's definitely not Republic because these conscious copies of C17th /C18th pieces were not made in the Republic period . So it has to be earlier or later.
The date of '1965' provided by the OP, from the original seller, is confusing because I would say the first vase was made in the last 10-20 years, ie from 2000 onwards
