I remember that ceramic tiles came back into fashion first in bathrooms through my (only known copy of the) J. L. Mott Iron Works catalogue R (and pricelist) of 1897. It was the go-to for every millionaire wanting a 'new' bathroom. Their price list suggests there was a lot of money around for 'new'. Those 'tilers' were doing custom jobs for expensive new homes.

I'm putting together a jigsaw puzzle of a couple of hundred original 1920's/30's wall tiles for a mural. It seems to be after/by Edward Hopper. The tiles aren't marked, at least not the ones I've looked at so far, except for their position in the mural. I know it isn't Chinese but I don't know any tile experts and it is NE USA to the bone and I'm sure a few of you are too.

I haven't even cleaned the unused tile set, barely removed them from their 1930s newspaper wrappings. I'll clean the dust off them and assemble the ceramic jigsaw puzzle and take some better photos along with a rubbing of the back to see if anything shows up.

If you know anyone with any knowledge of the field I'd be grateful. I'm pretty sure it's rare to find a large mural like this unused.
