It’s likely to be Japanese and fairly modern given the gold background and strong colors with no fading, but difficult to tell from the photos.

So you believe the painting to be Japanese? It was my suspicion, namely because the two characters & seal like that are very common on Japanese paintings as well as the brocade pattern. Do you think it has any age or a modern piece? Appreciate the help!

This pine and crane motif appears often in Japanese art as I have a few from Japan as well. Here is the Feng character:

FYI the middle of the Feng character is a bug. Derivation: Bugs arise when the wind blows.

Hi All,

Just thought I will post some more of my paintings that I have hit a dead end identifying further with hopes someone has some further insights as 1000 eyes are better than 2. I have a gold silk painting of a crane in a pine tree, I know the association is longevity rebus "May you possess the longevity of the crane and the age of a pine"... most likely a birthday or wedding gift. However, this is as far as I have gotten and I am unsure if its even Chinese, possibly Japanese? As far as the calligraphy, the first character is challenging but I think it may be 分 fen as the second one I believe is 清 or qing which I believe combined is to "clarify distinctions" which doesn't make sense to me. The seal which is already hard to read, is also impossible for my uneducated mind to decipher at all and probably too garbled for anyone else to either but worth a shot. Any insights as to age and translation to help me put some more pieces of this puzzle together would be much appreciated. Thanks!
