That was actually an opportunistic purchase. I didn't pay some money to acquire it, but way less than what its normal price would be. Or so it seems so far. <p>Looking at the body showing at the base it looks like high fired stoneware not porcelain. The glaze looks like Tenmoku . Tenmoku comes in blue, white, and brown with black patches. Maybe you should look at Japanese wares in your research.</p>

<p>I haven't heard of "cinnabar glaze". Usually cinnabar refers to the typical bright red lacquer.</p>
<p>This looks to me like a black, probably iron oxide glaze. While technically it's a very, very dark brown, they usually appear black.</p>
<p>The foot rim would seem to be Yuan or early Ming, but I'm not familiar with this particular shape. Hopefully others can chime in with some more helpful information. </p>
