Just for comparison, attached images of several such dishes;

1; Lot 254, Sby’s London 15 May 2013, YZ m/p.
2/3; HK private collection, YZ m/p.
5/6; Large dish, 36cm, with pale celadon glaze showing the exterior incised design. Unmarked, from my collection.

Although output declined markedly after the mid/late 15th century, celadons from Longquan continued to be made throughout the Qing dynasty and Republic periods, and are still produced today, so difficult to say where your example was made …

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the information.

I know celadons are still produced today (I think Peter said they weren't as much during the Republic Era). Most if not all of the ones produced recently imitate the Longquan footrim and style as much as possible.

Do you know where one like mine would have been produced? Not Jingdezhen, I'm assuming.

Regards,

Hi Steve -

The Yongzheng and early/mid Qianlong examples of such pieces, most with lotus but occasionally peony, have the incised design repeated to the exterior and were ordered in several different monochrome glaze colours …

The bases on such pieces can be white glazed with Imperial underglaze blue marks, or glazed the same colour as the piece with an impressed mark …

None Imperial but high quality examples of both designs were also produced throughout the YZ and QL periods with different monochrome glazes. These also have either white/same colour bases but are unmarked …

The lotus design dishes were very popular, and production of such continues well into the 19th century, but the carving/glaze quality can vary considerably …
