I think its a dragon shaped iron dress pin, there is a shimmer of silver as well on the head so the origin would make sense for Scandinavian. As to the bottom shaft shifting to a flat ridge and the open mouth, its tougher to say if this would actually have been a hilt of a dagger, but the straight shape seems a bit off for that direction. This shape is generally used as dress pins so theres a chance it couldve been a clasp belt style. Per the age, I am not keen to this but before 19th century at least is where I'd start.

Hey everyone, I'd love to hear opinions about this small metal object. It came out of a collection of mostly Persian antiques but they also had an interest in antique Asian and South American objects. I am thinking this could be an old key, perhaps for tuning an instrument, but I'm not sure. The dragon with upturned lips reminds me of Han and earlier style Chinese types. Do you think this is a key or something else, Persian, Chinese, kind of old, really old???? John
