With the lower blue border being printed and the way the boys’ eyes are painted rather 1980 IMO.

I watched the video and my first impression about the lanterns was also mid century or later based on colors, style, quality and border decorations. They indeed look to have been fired in a gas kiln aswell . In my opinion anywhere between 1940-1980.

The vase currently on offer on eBay is a really beautifully rendered example of a fairly well-known pattern that appeared during/other the republic period.

The one from Baoyuan auction house on the other hand is not imo from the Republican period. Based on one solitary picture I would submit it is a much later example.

The one from Poly auction is absolutely stunning from what I can observe. Poly auction is china's largest auction house group.

However, as with all chinese auction houses they are all marred with high quality attributes.

The quail bowl was a beautiful genuine example.

I really loved the 37.5cm Republic period vase with the landscape scene with the two bat's as handles that was passed in at 2800 pounds.

Interesting that the very same vase is now being offered on eBay and is currently listed on this weeks newsletter. Second chance perhaps. 🤔

Also in this week's newsletter/video Peter mentioned a pair of republican period lanterns featuring playful boys. In my opinion these lanterns are not from the stated period but post 1960's. The glaze is sugary-white. Perfect glaze both inside and out. In my opinion a clear indication that these were gas fired rather than wood fired examples. Also the detail of figures is sub-standard. 🙄

Nobody is perfect. Mistakes do happen even to the experts from time to time. 😊

Well done!

I guess the reserve prices were set too high. It can work as a psychologically barrier on the bidders. Just as with buy-it-now prices. But one of the pieces that did sell was the Yongzheng mark and period dragon bowl. https://www.catawiki.com/l/33086305-bowl-doucai-porcelain-dragon-yongzheng-mark-and-period-china-yongzheng-1723-1735 And if you compare with the pair of similar bowls sold at Christie's it seems the result was actually pretty good. https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/a-pair-of-doucai-dragon-ogee-bowls-6167834-details.aspx But I just checked and it seems there are more nice things coming up so it's definitely worthwhile to kkep an eye on the listings on Catawiki in the future.

I do like the landscape vase (restored) republican period along with the 18th century carp/lotus jade pebble.

As I reside in Australia there are issues with shipping etc the last time I checked. 😩

A video with the Falangcai Poppy Bowl sold at Sotheby's. Here you can see how leaves are similar painted as on the gallbladder vase I have found and how it looks brand new with the glaze and the footring even though it dates to the 18th century. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaNimPvnDCY
