<p>Hi Dom, I think I’ve mentioned before that many of this type of ware was found near railroad construction camp sites in California where great work was being done on transcontinental railroads in the late 19th century. Most were shards and they speak to the great contributions of the workers.</p>

The first example looks c. 1820, it is similar to the plates and bowls that were found in the Tek Sing wreck that were brought up in 1997 and sold by a European auction house. Your examples do not appear to have been from a wreck. As the French lady expert told me in 1991 in regard to my example, "these were for the poor peoples." In other words, everyday dishes for the masses. I for one, am happy they had some pretty patterns to brighten their lives.</p>]]></content:encoded>
